Metro will hold an information session later this month to share the revised design proposal for a memorial planned in the historic Chinese section of Lone Fir Cemetery.

The event will take place on April 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the cemetery鈥檚 southwestern portion, near the corner of Southeast Morrison Street and Southeast 20th Avenue.

The project team is working with community members to create a garden in an area labeled 鈥淏lock 14鈥 on cemetery maps. The memorial will include elements that honor the thousands of Chinese and Chinese American people who were buried at the cemetery, with space for practicing rituals and honoring ancestors, according to a press release.

Event attendees will be able to learn about the site鈥檚 history, meet with project team members, and view the latest design concept. Attendees also will be able to provide feedback to inform further refinement of the design, Metro stated.

According to Metro, the proposal currently calls for a space for conducting rituals and making offerings, a pathway through a grove of trees, interpretive signage and storytelling, and seating.

In addition to the information session on April 27, Metro will hold an online focus group session specifically for Chinese American community members on April 23. Information about both events is available at . An online survey will be posted at the same website in late April and then remain open for three weeks.

Money from a parks and nature bond approved by voters in 2019 is paying for the project.

The memorial is expected to open by the end of 2026.
