Design firm Bora Architecture & Interiors, in collaboration with DAO Architecture, Curious Architects, and Walker Macy, has been selected to design an $85 million career and technical education (CTE) building for Portland Community College’s Rock Creek campus in Northwest Portland.

The new building will allow PCC to address occupant health and diverse learning needs as it accounts for 10-year campus enrollment growth projections. The design effort will include community engagement and diverse views of race and space to help shape the campus climate, a press release states.

The project is included in PCC’s 2022 bond measure as a renovation or replacement of Building 2, PCC spokesman James Hill stated in an email. The building will include CTE space for existing programs currently located in Building 2. An extensive campus planning exercise will be conducted to confirm the appropriate location for the building. The project team will explore options for partial demolition of Building 2, new construction, and partial renovation of Building 2, Hill added.

While it is very early in the project and the full programming for the new building is not yet determined, it is anticipated that Building Construction Technology and Automotive Services will be included, Hill stated.

The selection of a general contractor is in process. Engineering firms will be contracted through the prime firms.

The project schedule for design and construction has not yet been determined.
