The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has launched a Diesel Emissions Identification Program for owners and operators of non-road and on-road construction equipment. The voluntary program provides labels that identify the engine exhaust emissions profile for each item 鈥 including excavators, concrete mixer trucks and dump trucks 鈥 at a construction site.

Participation in the program allows companies to show they are aligned with state and local agency requirements and limiting emissions from equipment used during construction projects. Labels help show contractors鈥 and subcontractors鈥 commitment to cleaner practices. Program involvement displays companies鈥 support for the health and well-being of neighboring communities and vulnerable populations that can experience increases in noise, pollution and other disruptions related to large construction projects, DEQ stated in a press release.

In 2019, the Oregon Legislature passed HB 2007, which is focused on reducing diesel emissions in the state. The law directed the DEQ to develop and adopt rules聽for a diesel emissions labeling program.

Owners and operators of construction machinery or vehicles can also apply for the DEQ鈥檚 to help them comply with state and local diesel exhaust emissions standards. There is no charge for Diesel Emissions Identification Program participation or labels.
